Weight Training Weighs In - Rochester D&C

Check out your Rochester Democrat and Chrolicle this morning.
I was asked to comment for an article on weight training, and it is in today’s (March 10, 2009)  Living Section - Weight Training Weighs In and it is available on-line.  Here is a bit of what the article said:

Get some instruction. Small changes in form and technique make a big difference. You can hurt yourself or fail to work the muscle you’re trying to strengthen if you don’t know what you’re doing. For example, the way you lower a weight is as important as how you lift it. “If you let gravity do it, then gravity is getting the work,” says certified personal trainer Tricia Rzepkowski, 34, of Webster, whose women-oriented business is Training with Tricia. Consider a few sessions with a personal trainer or take a class through a fitness center or adult education program.

Go for balance. Work all of your major muscles — abdominals, legs, chest, back, shoulders and arms. Don’t forget both the front and back of your body, such as your quadriceps (front of thigh) and hamstrings (back of thigh). “Your muscles are meant to work in pairs,” says Rzepkowski. Imbalances can lead to injury.
