Pasta Pasta

Walk down the pasta aisle at you local Wegmans and you may be overwhelmed by all the choices, 214 are availble online. Today I am cooking up just a few of the choices to do a little comparing. I will be looking at their nutritional values as well as their taste.   After all if it doesn’t taste good I will not eat it.  The pastas that I am looking at today are Wegmans Spaghetti, Wegmans Italian Classics Spaghetti, Whole Wheat, Ronzoni Smart Taste Spaghetti, Ronzoni Healthy Harvest Spaghetti, and Barilla Plus Spaghetti.

Wegmans Spaghetti $0.89 – 210 calories, 1 gram of fat, 2 grams of fiber, 7 grams of protein
Wegmans Italian Classics Whole Wheat $2.19 – 180 calories, 1 gram of fat, 6 grams of fiber, 7 grams of protein
Ronzoni Smart Taste (this pasta has added calcium) $1.49 – 180 calories, 1 gram of fat, 6 grams of fiber, 6 grams of protein
Ronzoni Healthy Harvest (whole wheat pasta blend) $1.49 - 180 calories, 2 gram of fat, 6 grams of fiber, 7 grams of protein
Barilla Plus  (this pasta has added 200 mg ALA Omega 3) $1.99 - 210 calories, 2 grams of fat, 4 grams of fiber, 10 grams of protein

After tasting the pastas, I could not find a lot of difference in the taste between the Wegmans Spaghetti, the Barilla Plus, and the  Ronzoni Smart Taste. I believe that you could easily make the switch from an enriched white pasta to one of these mutigrain or wheat options. I preferred the Wegmans Italian Classics Whole Wheat to the Ronzoni Healthy Harvest.  The texture of the Ronzoni Healthy Harvest is a little bit different.

My pick overall is the Barilla Plus!  I love the taste and the extra protien and 200 mg ALA omega 3.  My second place winner is the Wegmans Italian Classics Whole Wheat

Remember your pasta choice is only step one. What you put on it and how much you have are just as important.
