What is a Food Diary? A food diary is a detailed account of the foods you eat.
Details that are often included in a food diary are:
What food was eaten - be specific
Portion size - how much- ounces, grams, cups, tbsps
Time - what time of day
Where - at home, at work, at a restaurant, in the car
Mood -happy, sad, mad, stressed
Activity - working, watching TV, driving
Alone or with Company - Do you eat differently with certain people or when you are alone?
Do not change your eating habits while you are keeping your initial food diary this will help you discover in black and white where you tough spots are and where we need to make some changes. Once we determine where you are struggling we can make some better choices.
Today in Yahoo News there is an article “Study shows value of food diary in losing weight.” I must agreed with the idea that recording definately lays out where the extra calories are coming from. Another importantpart of a Food Diary is the accountability to yourself and this was talked about on ABC News.I know that when I record what I eat, I eat better. I tell my clients “If you do not want to write down a food in your food diary then do not eat it!”
