Have you made your “New You” Resolution, yes, I said “New You,” not New Year… after all isn’t this whole idea of a resolution to be about making a change to better yourself. Wikipedia defines New Year’s Resolution as
A New Year’s Resolution is a commitment that an individual makes to a project or the reforming of a habit, often a lifestyle change that is generally interpreted as advantageous. The name comes from the fact that these commitments normally go into effect on New Year’s Day and remain until fulfilled or abandoned. More socio-centric examples include resolutions to donate to the poor more often, to become more assertive, or to become more economically or environmentally responsible.
New Year’s Eve is approaching and everyone is trying to come up with a New Year’s Resolution that they can stick with in 2009. Some of the most popular on the list each year include:
1. Lose weight, Eat better, workout
2. Stop smoking, Stop drinking
3. Get out of Debt, save money
4. Learn something new
5. Help others
6. get organized
7. Take a trip
8. Get a new job
9. Reduce Stress
10. Get a better education
Fitness and Nutrition always make the top of the list each year. I want to commend all of you out there that stuck with it in 2008, getting healthy is no easy feat, but if you were able to stick with it and make your health a priority this past year, I am proud of you! Maybe improved fitness and nutrition are your goals for 2009 - make your health a real priority. This is awesome and you can do it!
Let’s talk about a few simple things to help you with your “New You resolution”
1. Be realistic, aim low, start small. It will not help you to set a goal that is out of reach.
2. Talk about it, write about it, be accountable. The more of your family and friends know what you are up to the more support you will have. Even better get a partner to do it with you.
3. Plan ahead, be ready. What will I do if…? You will slip up and the faster you get back on track the less time you will have wasted.
4. Track your progress good and bad and stick with it. Make short term goals and take it one day at a time.
5. Reward yourself, treat yourself to something you enjoy. You have been working hard and that should be recognized.
My New You resolution is coming soon, stay tuned, and Happy New Year!
