High-Tech gaming at the Eastside YMCA

Playworld Systems has introduced a new electronic sport, NEOS.  If you have not seen or heard of NEOS I am sure you are wondering what it is.  Playworld Systems defines NEOS as:

An electronic game for the whole body—and everybody. Nine exciting games; three skill levels; it is technology with an aerobic twist. Four sleek towers house flashing lights, music and sound effects. Players run back and forth, racing the clock and each other to slap the blinking lights. Each game presents a different set of challenges. Each game strengthens the mind, challenges the body and delights the spirit. NEOS inspires laughter, smiles and high-energy cheers. It encourages memory retention, hand-eye coordination, physical strength and endurance.

The NEOS system has four towers, 3 categories, containing nine total games, three skill levels, 16 buttons and 42 playable sequences. The three categories and games:
Random Games (Light Grabber, Light Thief, Bubble Burst)
Linear Games (Roadblock, Snake, Goalie)
Musical Games (Echo, Dance with Me, Music Machine)

NEOS is available to use at the Eastside YMCA in Rochester, NYOther YMCA branches across the country are adding this amentiy to the offerings to keep kids moving and combat childhood obesity.

I think this is a pretty neat concept, and a great time too.  I had a chance to play for a few minutes, Tuesday morning.  I had to stop when a bunch of kids came over and were very patiently waiting for “the old lady,” me to give them a turn.  Playworld Systems hit the nail on the head:

It’s an electronic game for the heart and lungs—not just the thumbs.

There is nothing like kids playing on a traditional playground and adults working out, but this is a great activity to add to the mix.
NEOS gets two thumbs up!
