Girl Golfing

There are lots of lady golfers, just watch the LPGA and be impressed!  I would hesitate to say that I am a golfer, or even that I play golf.  More appropriate would be I have golfed and I am learning to play golf.  I learned how to play golf in the early 90’s, even took a few lessons at Woodcliff. I was also a Personal Trainer at Oak Hill Country Club and tried out my “skills” on their beautiful courses a few times. After moving to Chicago and having 2 kids, golf just did not fit in my busy schedule.

Now my kids are in school and I decided to take a few lessons.  I thought the lessons would help me put a few basic skills together, and minimize the addition of old bad habits.  I am taking lessons at Big Oak Driving Range and Golf Shop and I am loving it.  I am learning “how to swing the club, not hit the ball.”  I hope to make a good shot or two when I hit the ball, maybe I will even hit a golf course this summer.

Golf, like any sport, requires proper training.  One key element in your training program should be stretching.

The Mayo Clinic has a great slide show of some excellent golf stretches for a more fluid swing.

Stretching will not only improve your score but help prevent injury.  The most common golf injuries occur in the img_7758back, shoulder, elbow, wrist, and knee. There are strategies for preventing such injuries!

Here are a few public golf courses in the Rochester area with Executive or 9-Hole courses

Buttonwood - Spencerport
Executive South - Henrietta
Island Valley - Fairport
Riverton - West Henrietta
Shadow Lake - Penfield
Southern Meadows - Rush
St. John Fisher - Rochester
Victor Hills - Victor
Winding Creek - Victor
