Anna, my 6 year old daughter, has been coming home from school telling me all about her workout of the day. This workout is not from her PE class, but right in her First Grade classroom. Anna class has been participating in the Deskercise program.
Deskercise is a daily classroom fitness series hosted by Slim Goodbody. The episodes are fun and educational, engaging both the body and the mind!
Program Structure
Each episode begins with short geography lesson related to a state, territory or country.
This geographic element of the show is expanded and viewers learn three healthy things they might do in the particular state or country, from hiking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, to climbing the Eiffel Tower in France.
Then, Slim introduces two animated characters, “Woody Deskenrow” and “Happy”. These characters
appear in the themed segment of the show. For example, Slim may do desk push-ups, or seated crunches.
Next, Slim leads the viewers in a short warm-up to be done standing next to their desks.
Following this, Slim leads viewers into the main exercise segment based on the weekly theme.
Upon completion of this segment, viewers cool-down, while they listen to a specific health tip they can use to increase their over-all fitness.
Thank you Mrs. Walters for helping our kids be active and learn all at the same time!
